about

Cowboy Builder is a rogue trader forced by blacklist into the world of music where they may hide forever

Typical songs involve minimal droning guitar and two drum kits falling down the stairs for several minutes at a time

Cowboy Builder began trading in October 2019, but may have been going longer under misleading handles and faker names. Some members may have been associated with Bamya, some may have known Dr. VZX Moist.

PRAISE FOR COWBOY BUILDER:

/Much like the images in the book, the whole album feels like it’s been knocked into a battered out-of-placeness by reality speeding up around it. A world of strange comforts emanating from grey skies and out-of-sync architecture\ (DARYL WORTHINGTON, THE QUIETUS, 2022)

/I'm here to stop this from happening to the audience\ (CHRIS GLEN, HENRYS CELLAR BAR SOUND TECH, 2019)

"It was a dark and stormy Friday round a roaring fire. We were in THE GARDEN. 3 bottles of mulled wine and 2 crates of tins were being consumed. This was when Cowboy Builder first requested my services to write these liner notes for THE NAME OF THE DEMON IS... COWBOY BUILDER. "I know nothing about music", I protested. Turns out, I was exactly the right person for the job. Assessing an individual's music as a psychologist is a largely untouched approach - one for which there is no prescribed methodology. Nonetheless, some surface level observations can be made. Congruence between personality and musical preference is well established. The often-complex structures and reflective tone observed whilst listening to this album points towards musicians who are high on trait Openness (Vuoskoski & Eerola, 2011), meaning curiosity and inventiveness.

The alias COWBOY BUILDER is derived from criminal endeavors of the natural father. Children imitate their parents from an early age, particularly those of the same sex, and this continues into early adulthood. Some older studies suggest that as one matures past childhood, it is father's morals that are particularly imitated (Fallot & Mahl, 1976). This would be a pertinent observation if it was not for the lifetime absence of this natural father. Early loss of a father is associated with an increased incidence of psychotic illness, criminality, and alcoholism (Huttunen & Nikanen 1978, Clark et al, 2013). This is mediated however by a child's ability to emotionally regulate (Shi et al, 2018), which is significantly predicated upon a secure relationship with both a mother and replacement father in early childhood (Fernandes et al, 21).

The high openness to experience is associated with an increased tendency to develop schizophrenia (Kemp et al, 2020). However, it is important to note the intervention of a 'social father'. Social fathers can provide equal or greater parenting ability than biological fathers (Berger et al, 2008), providing a stabilizing influence. It is interesting to note that even when a biological father's antisocial behavior is controlled for, in this case by absence, a son may still inherit his father's tendency to interact with deviant peers (Dishion, Owen & Bullock et al, 2004). The disregard of society's norms, in musical or criminal endeavors, could be a differing display of the same genetic heritage. Although attempting to break tradition, COWBOY BUILDER cannot escape being a product of the conditions that formed them. The attempt to break with tradition only reinforces the tradition itself, and these attempts form the music you now hold in your hand (or screen)"
